Kelly Clarkson admits she spanks her children if they misbehave

Clarkson said it was โ€˜trickyโ€™ to smack her children in public
Parents everywhere are divided the world over on the issue of smacking, but Kelly Clarkson isnโ€™t so on the fence over the issue.

The American Idol winner has said sheโ€™s โ€œnot aboveโ€ smacking, admitting, โ€œI do thatโ€, and has even spoken about the difficulties of disciplining her children in public.

Clarkson said it becomes โ€œtrickyโ€ to spank her kids out in public, because smacking is frowned upon.

Speaking on Atlanta Radio station 94.1 in 2018, Clarkson said: โ€œIโ€™m not above a spanking, which people arenโ€™t necessarily into. I donโ€™t mean hitting her hard, I just mean a spanking.โ€

The Kelly Clarkson Show host went on: โ€œMy parents spanked me, and I did fine in life, and I feel fine about it, and I do that as well.

โ€œThatโ€™s a tricky thing, when youโ€™re out in public, because then people are like, they think thatโ€™s wrong or something, but I find nothing wrong with a spanking.โ€

Clarkson did, however, say she doesnโ€™t just smack her kids on the spot. Rather she warns them first.

She said: โ€œIโ€™m like, โ€˜Hi, Iโ€™m going to spank you on your bottom if you donโ€™t stop right now, this is ridiculousโ€™.

โ€œHonestly itโ€™s really helped. She doesnโ€™t do that kind of stuff as often.โ€

It is not known if Clarksonโ€™s views on smacking have changed in recent years.

Clarkson shares two children with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, daughter River Rose, eight, and son Remington Alexander, six.

She often speaks candidly about parentings, and has told of the โ€œmum guiltโ€ she experienced.

She told Redbook in 2016: โ€œI have a lot of mum guilt. If youโ€™re a mum, you want to be with your kid every day.

โ€œYou donโ€™t want to miss a moment, you want her to need you and want you and not want somebody else.โ€

Clarkson added: โ€œIโ€™m not gonna BS you, thatโ€™s hard. There are days where I cry and Iโ€™m like, โ€˜I donโ€™t know if I can handle all this!โ€™ or get it all done.

โ€œBut at the end of the day, 99 percent of the time, itโ€™s awesome and itโ€™s worth it, and thatโ€™s what I say to myself.โ€

The star also told how having children โ€œbrought fear into her lifeโ€, because before she became a mum she was โ€œfearlessโ€.

โ€œNow I go to bed and I have nightmares of someone just grabbing my little girl and running. โ€œItโ€™s always about me not being able to protect my kids somehow.โ€
